Denmark, we all love it for its awe-inspiring beaches, magnificent forests and rolling green pastures.
But do you know what makes us most proud to call ourselves locals? It’s the amazing kindness and generosity of Denmark’s people.
We’re a small town with a big heart.
That’s why the Denmark Community Foundation is here. We want the people of Denmark to be able to give to the town they love.
Being locals, we understand the hopes and needs of the Denmark people. This means locals (and locals at heart) can come together to support the causes we care about most.
Led by a diverse Board of committed local volunteers, we are the oldest community
foundation in WA – and we’re here to stay.
The Denmark Community Foundation is at the heart of our community.
We:
- Support initiatives that reduce social isolation and bring the community together
- Provide relief to those facing hardship or homelessness
- Help our young people thrive
- Help our community to prepare and respond to emergencies

Transformative gifts for a stronger future
Denmark Community Foundation (DCF) has developed a much-valued relationship with the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation.
Through this relationship we have received generous gifts that have enabled us to fund a number of initiatives that help our young people thrive and reduce social isolation in Denmark, a focus of DCF since the release of our Social Isolation Report.
These initiatives include:

Funding of free support services provided by Youth Focus Great Southern to help Denmark’s young people. The services include community-based individual counselling/support sessions by a Mental Health Clinician in Denmark for two days a week (supporting young people who are above school age, homeschooled, or disengaged from school), group-based support programs, family-inclusive support sessions and parent information/education sessions.
The free support is available to young people (12 to 25 years) and concerned family and friends on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Denmark Community Resource Centre. To make an appointment simply call the headspace Albany office on 9842 9871. No referral is required and wait times are short (if any).

The commercialisation of the kitchen at the Shire of Denmark’s McLean House to help it to once again be a thriving, community gathering space. Thanks to the vision of Dor Shira from the Denmark Dance Company and professional nutritionist and cook Joelle Rose, McLean House is now the home of the Happy Plate Kitchen. It’s a hub of “shared ritual, culture and joy” that brings people of all ages together, and provides meaningful employment and education to young people who are employed in the kitchen. It’s also a welcoming place where families and friends gather to enjoy a beautiful, nutritious meal and fun times, with young artists providing music and dance entertainment in a picnic atmosphere.

The purchase of a wheelchair accessible community bus for the Denmark Community Resource Centre.
The bus, which is driven by a team of volunteers, allows Denmark residents without other means of transport to access events, gatherings and outings.
As a town without any other forms of local public transport, it’s life changing.

The purchase of play equipment and the installation of an all-abilities pathway to the Denmark Primary School playground, allowing all students to independently access the playground for the first time.

Events for vulnerable and at-risk young people in Denmark provided by the Albany Youth Support Association.

Patient transport provided by St John WA and the Umbrella Group helping Denmark locals attend medical appointments in both town and Albany.

Funds for the Denmark Community Resource Centre’s Emergency Relief program which assists those experiencing hardship and homelessness in Denmark.

Denmark Community Resource Centre’s Coder Dojo Project that brings young people together to form friendships while learning new skills.

Binoculars and a telescope to enable the Denmark Bird Group to lead excursions and workshops for student groups and to involve more members of the Denmark community in citizen science activities, thereby raising awareness of the importance of conserving bird habitat and providing social, nature-based opportunities.
