Two new OMRON home monitoring, portable ECG devices have been donated to Denmark Medical Centre and Dr Jane James’s Surgery by the Denmark Community Foundation (WA) Inc., through funds accessed from the Don Brandenburg Trust. The monitors digitally sense the heart waveform and can be carried and used anywhere, improving the scope and ease of use for both practitioners and patients.

Doctors Hector Faulkner and Brett Lamb flagged the need for these devices to improve out of surgery care for patients and Dr Faulkner, Don Brandenburg’s GP noted that “Don had a real interest in everyone maintaining good heart health and was very supportive of using innovative technology to maximise heart health.”

“We acknowledge Don Brandenburg’s generous foresight in bequeathing funds to assist others”, said Dr Gill Sellar (DCF Chairperson). “Imagine what a difference we could make if more people in our community were able to leave something in their will, like Don, or make a ‘living donation’ to the Foundation to help here at home?”

As a not-for-profit, registered charitable organisation providing a perpetual and growing source of money to meet the existing and emerging needs of Denmark is at the heart of DCF’s agenda.

The Denmark Community Foundation supports local community wellbeing, opportunities for youth and seniors through donations, bequests and fundraising. As a not-for-profit organisation DCF is also able to auspice grants and funds raised through fundraising events for other community groups and individuals, towards the future good of our community.

We are thrilled to announce the Denmark Cooperative and IGA Express (aka 'little' IGA) have come on board to support our local 'Buck Up!' initiative whereby customers may choose to add one dollar to their purchase as a contribution to the Denmark Community Foundation Fund.

This fund is used to make grants for community projects that:

extremely important project succeed for the benefit of the entire region.

Albany needs a radiation treatment machine as cancer patients from the Great Southern who require radiation treatment

must make a round trip to Perth to receive it. This can be stressful and tiring for patients and their families - we can do better!

A number of fundraising activities are underway including encouraging farmers to nominate some of their

hay bales to be wrapped in coloured plastic and donate the sale amount of these bales to raise money and awareness for cancer.

Other upcoming activities include a quiz night, Radiothon and more!

Our community grants round sent money to where it's needed!

Christmas came early for five local Denmark community groups who each strive to improve the quality in life (or in some cases, save it!) in their own way for our wonderful town.

Heartfelt congratulations to Sarabande Music Ensemble, Stepping Out – Two, Denmark Weed Action Group, St John Ambulance – Denmark and Gumnut Corner - Denmark Occasional Daycare Centre. We wish you all the best with your projects.

A BIG thank you goes to our Community Grants Committee (a group of locals independent from DCF) who volunteered to assess grant applications.

DCF will be holding their Annual General Meeting at 6pm on Friday 9th December 2016 at the Denmark Hotel Function Room.

We are looking for volunteers who have the prosperity and wellbeing of our community at heart and who may have been involved in other not-for-profit organisations or in a professional capacity in business or other positions before coming to live in Denmark.

We need you to help drive the Foundation’s next agenda in what is going to be an interesting and exciting time for the town!

Max and the Denmark Hotel have been ardent supporters of the Foundation for many years now, providing us with the Hotel’s function room for Board meetings and gatherings.

A regular, generous donation to our community funds has been made by Max through the “Open Mic Nights’ held each week, assisting us meet some of our fundraising obligations as a community charitable organisation.

Max has been the Hotel’s Publican for seven and a half years having an extensive background in hotel management. He has twin, seven-and-a-half year old daughters and knows the importance of family, caring values and supporting local community through giving back in ways which benefit all. Having spent childhood time with his family in rural Binalong in NSW, Max grew up with an understanding that country people need to pull together and support each other in order to thrive and survive and his support of the Denmark Community Foundation is one example of this.

He sees hotels and publicans as often the “hub of a community, providing a social meeting place, which should in turn put back into that community where possible”. Max and his establishment does this and more and is a good example of 'prosperity through kindness' in action!
